Over my last few games I've been trying to get into a better habit of taking pictures. I'll do my best to provide the turn by turn but this is a big learning experience for me so if you have any suggestions let me know!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>First I'd Imagine we need to focus on the lists:<br />
<br />
<u><b>Necrons</b></u><br />
Vargard Obyron<br />
Necron Warriors(5)<br />
Necron Warriors(5)<br />
Canoptek Wraiths (3), Whip Coils, Particle Caster<br />
Annihilation Barge <br />
<br />
<u><b>Tyranids</b></u><br />
Tervigon, Regeneration, Toxin Sacs, Adrenal Glands, Catalyst<br />
Hive Guard (2)<br />
Genestealer Brood (5), Scything Talons<br />
Hormagaunt (15) <br />
<br />
To be fair the Tyranids were played by our newest player. This was literally his first game with his bugs. I have always loved the Tyranids in concept but don't find them terribly competitive. One day I will own a horde style army that includes tons and tons of little bugs scurrying at your target. As some of you know I'm the groups unofficial 'leader' I the demonstration games, know the rules the best and generally make the most effort to get new members. This guy was our newest addition and originally was going to play Necrons (one of my demo armies) but then fell in love with the Tyranids due to his StarCraft experience.<br />
<br />
Please note he played with the models he had and I know the Tyranid codex and where the threats are. I've always felt that my groups biggest weakness is target priority. So lets get started!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Setup:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Point Value - 500</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Deployment - Mini Pitched Battle (3 by 4 table 'ish')</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mission Type - Annihilation (we chose this because it was his first real game)</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u><b> Deployment</b></u></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7180/7127302309_7bbc1209f7_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7180/7127302309_7bbc1209f7_b.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sorry about the blurry pictures, planning on buying a real camera soon.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
He deployed fairly as I'd expect him. He's lucky I wasn't playing with anything long range or I'd have picked off his Tervigon round one. Mind you this is a 500 point game so not much going on here. I deployed Obyron by himself standing out in the open as I knew he didn't have anything to pick him off and the warriors were all standing in the 5+ cover. My plan here was to eliminate any range ability he had as quickly as possible (namely his Tervigon and Hive Guard) and make the rest come to me. I also reserved for deepstrike the 3 Wraiths.<br />
<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u><b>Round One</b></u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8167/7127300659_c720582a95_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8167/7127300659_c720582a95_b.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Obyron is actually standing right behind the stone block but kept falling off.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
He oddly moved his army to the right of his board (big mistake in my opinion) and kind of started skirting his genestealers, hormagaunts and newly created termigants towards me. I ghostwalker mantled Obyron into that corner and ran him out of LOS of the majority of his army.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u><b>Round Two</b></u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7044/6981212606_2051e5d8fe_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7044/6981212606_2051e5d8fe_b.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Really Blurry, sorry.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
He completely ignored Obyron (big mistake) and kept skirting towards me (another mistake). He started moving through cover which didn't bother me as it was beyond the range of my Warriors and my Barge didn't really care about a 5+ cover save (since it is AP -). I ended up assaulting the Hive Guard with Obyron and wiped them out. Did take 1 wound however.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u><b>Round Three</b></u></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7206/6981210094_b76def4dc3_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7206/6981210094_b76def4dc3_b.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">He continued to ignore his flanks.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I deepstruck Obyron back near my front lines and scattered beautifully between my warriors and his army. I was hoping to run to that point but this thankfully made things easier. Moved my barge to screen for my warriors. My Wraiths came down and sneered at his Tervigon. I shot his Genestealers off the board.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u><b>Round Four</b></u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7128/7127294767_707e09e7b6_b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7128/7127294767_707e09e7b6_b.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The lid smashes shut on the bugs.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
All in a flash (well as flashy as Necrons can) Obyron assaulted a Termagant Squad and the Wraiths assaulted the Tervigon. Fearless turns out to be a huge hindrance for him due to my I2. Somehow the Tervigon lives but the squad of termagants is lost.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u><b>Round Five</b></u></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Sorry, no pictures for the rest of the game. Must have forgot or maybe I just got too into slicing bugs into small pieces. I shot off the rest of his Hormagaunts (meaning that neither his genestealers or hormagaunts got into CC) and destroyed the Tervigon. Shot up a bit of his termagants forcing a leadership which he failed and they began the long run to the board edge. He shot up one of my Warrior Squads wiping them out and shot up the second killing 2 of the 5.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u><b>Round Six</b></u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
No picture here either. It was pretty much over at this point. Wraiths and Obyron kept wiping out squads, I think a wraith got a wound. I hid my other warriors behind a wall. The game ended at this point with me wiping out his forces. Score was 9 to 2 I think.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u><b>My Thoughts:</b></u></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I don't know why he zigged zagged at me. He doesn't either, first game mistake. He could have waited to spawn more termagants and that would have been fine but he ignored my Wraiths and Obyron when they came down. I figured they would get shot to pieces after their deepstrike but he was more concerned getting to my warriors and barge. I'm sure I made some mistakes too but it is hard to think about them when all my mistakes ended up paying dividends regardless.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So what do you all think? I understand this is only a 500 point game and it is terribly small but we are a growing gaming group trying to recruit new players, learn to paint, learn the rules, etc. Speaking of which we are starting an escalation league with the intention to improve these things.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As always, comments, suggestions?</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m470484_99189999114_BleachedBone_445x319.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="229" src="http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m470484_99189999114_BleachedBone_445x319.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Here is my problem...<br />
<br />
1) Control and Consistency:<br />
At base it is way to thick but when I wash it down (with distilled water or even acrylic thinner) it just becomes a mess and is impossible to control. Unlike my reds and even the metallic colors (shocking actually) it will obscure detail heavily. <br />
<br />
2) Dry-Brushing:<br />
It also doesn't respond very well to dry-brushing, at least when I attempt it. What happens is that It leaves the model with a 'chalky' look instead of actual paint. <br />
<br />
3) Building Up and Highlighting:<br />
Lastly, it doesn't seem to work well with shading in the way I normally shade things. I normally use Devlan Mud and then bring up the open areas up leaving the recesses washed, then finally taking one shade higher and highlighting the areas that would get light by a comination of line highlighting and zenithal shading.<br />
<br />
If anyone has any suggestions let me know I seem to be finding ways to correct the issues here and there but I feel more like I'm reacting to the paint and less like I'm controlling it...<br />
<br />
Any assistance through tutorials and such would be amazing!<br />

<br />
I've been trying to find my stride with this blog, I'm not sure exactly what I offer to the community as a newbie either but I feel I can at least open up for some good discussion! So, I'd like to start something that I hope will be a weekly addition to my blog.<br />
<br />
I will be providing a rule, a wargear, a...something in 40k that I'd like to see changed and why, this could be lore reasons, balance reasons, etc. So I want to start with a piece of wargear that is close to my heart. I'd say it is one of the figure-heads of the 40k Universe. The Chainsword!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.digitalnoob.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Space-Marine-Chainsword-Ork-600x300.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://www.digitalnoob.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Space-Marine-Chainsword-Ork-600x300.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Normal CCW? Really?</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Currently the Chainsword is a normal Close Combat Weapon for the purposes of the tabletop game. I'd like to see this changed. One thing I hear commonly is that it is the CCW weapon for a lot of models so changing it would not be possible or that fluff wise Space Marines tend to use it almost every time. Well to begin with there is another CCW that Space Marines can use...the Combat Blade. This could be the weapon we use for the basic close combat weapon.<br />
<br />
So what change would I like to make on this weapon? Its a fairly simple one, give it rending. From a fluff standpoint it works well because it is a blade made of swirling adamantium sharpened teeth this will rip through just about anything if it gets a good hold on it even armor. To be clear I'm not sure how game changing this would be but I see it being about a 5 point upgrade from a normal Combat Blade. Modeling would be the one hiccup because there just really aren't that many power armored combat knife arms. But I think this would be resolved with the new wave of models as with the newer models (Grey Knights) they seem to be making the hands and weapon separate from the arm itself which is a good step in the right direction.<br />
<br />
<b>So, a brief recap:</b><br />
<br />
Wargear - Chainsword<br />
Change - Give it rending<br />
Codex Alteration - Add 5 points to model or remove it and give them combat blade<br />
Model Kit Alteration - Going to need some power armor combat blade arms. <br />
<br />
What do you all think? Comments and suggestions please!<br />

Lets start with the army that got me into the hobby:<br />

<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> - The Blood Ravens - </b></div>
Obviously this is a Marine Army but I'd like to state something for any lore elitist out there: I love lore, I read the 40k books heavily and have read cover to cover EVERY codex. That being said, every single marine codex (yes, this includes Grey Knights) will be Blood Raven themed. I am not trying to power game or codex jump, every model will be uniquely made for the given codex but themed in Blood Ravens (if you don't like it please remember, these are my models and I'm not breaking any rules as the models will represent all wargear). I don't see myself making any exceptions for this but if I do it will be for the sake of wanting to paint or model something different. Let me give some examples:<br />
<br />
A tank column of Blood Raven vehicles that have been dispatched to begin a siege against an enemy who is well entrenched: Blood Angel Codex<br />
<br />
A regiment of aspirants (our pre-scouts) and their mentors: Black Templars<br />
<br />
An elite force of 1st company veterans and our specially equipped squads of Librarians: Grey Knights<br />
<br />
A company that has recently been resupplied with new Marines after being nearly wiped out, we have some very veteran leaders but our rank and file are freshly promoted to battle-brother: Space Wolves<br />
<br />
The Battle-Brothers of the 1st & 2nd Company that fell to chaos because of Azariah Kyras and gave themselves to (oddly enough?) Khorne: Chaos Space Marines<br />
<br />
With some examples out of the way, how do I plan to maintain a theme? Well to begin with all of my models will be painted in the Blood Raven colors, this is the Crimson Red with Parchment and Black Details (blood ravens are unique in the fact that all of our detail color on shoulders is black regardless of company / squad). I am working on some stencils for my vehicles (big black raven on roof!) and lots of 'knowledge' iconography like books, scrolls and such. All weapons and wargear will be properly presented (If I need a weapon that is special to the codex, say an Infernis Pistol or a Psycannon the model will have the actual model and not 'counts as or proxy'. Ideally units of veterans or 1st company will use modified Grey Knight Models because they are beautifully done and just need to shave off the Inquisition stuff). Vehicles are pretty easy as most vehicles are non-specific already and special characters will have their represented wargear appropriately but will be custom models based off Blood Ravens from the books / games.<br />
<br />
Some Ideas I have for special characters:<br />
<br />
A Furioso Dreadnought painted with a black left arm: Chaplain Prathios from the 3rd Company<br />
Mephiston: Captain Gabriel Angelous wielding the Varicanum<br />
Vindicare Assassin: Sergeant Cyrus<br />
Librarian bare boned - Librarian Niven<br />
Wolf Lord with Thunder-Hammer and Wolf Mount - Gabriel Angelous with Godsplitter and Bike<br />
<br />
These are just a few ideas...let me know if you have suggestions or more ideas! More to come as I'm working on two other armies right now.<br />
<br />

I don't really consider this a win because I didn't do it myself.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>None of this really is the point of this post (although I will be posting more about my thoughts of the game and my list itself). The reason is the conversation I had with two fellow players after the game. I was discussing my desires of my list and its theme (an Armored Company from the Blood Ravens) which they didn't seem to have any real issue with until I told them one of my ideas was to make a 1st Company of Blood Ravens using the Grey Knight Codex.<br />
<br />
To be fair this didn't cause a immediate 'Nerd Rage' it was more of a slow burn as I listened to their opinions and such about how some might feel that I was power-dexing then when I explained to them that Grey Knights were the best codex to to represent what I feel a veteran company (1st company) of Blood Ravens would be. They both insisted that I could not do this and that it would violate the lore of the codex.<br />
<br />
Now let me state that I had no intention of cutting any corners I was going to be buying the Grey Knight models, shave off the Inquisitorial icons, buy some custom shoulder pads and paint them up in Blood Raven glory! So my red Grey Knights were apparently unacceptable because it would smack in the face of those who love the lore. I'm not stating that I'm playing a successor chapter of Grey Knights or insisting that the Blood Ravens are...but simply that I'm using what I feel is a codex of Veterans as a 1st company.<br />
<br />
Here are some facts about the Blood Ravens:<br />
<br />
They do not know who their Primarch is<br />
>This means they could belong to any chapter, even chapter 666.<br />
Work closely with the Inquisition<br />
>This would explain why the Inquisition is in the codex <br />
They have been gifted Inquisitorial Weapons and Armor in the past<br />
>Psycannons? Gabriel has a Nemesis Daemon Hammer, and one of the Librarians Nemesis Force Sword.<br />
They have not been mind-wiped by the Inquisition unlike most other chapters<br />
>This means they know of the Inquisition greatly.<br />
The Grey Knights have come to assist the Blood Ravens many times<br />
>This gives me ideas like making Paladin squads that are still Grey Knights to 'assist'.<br />
<br />
A vast majority of the Blood Ravens are at least latent Psykers<br />
Blood Ravens have been known to have moments of 'clarity' during important battles where their speed and strength go beyond that of even a Marine.<br />
<br />
Here is why they are saying I can't do this:<br />
<br />
Only GW is cannon, all other sources (including Black Library & Forgeworld) are not.<br />
>Even though both those mentioned companies are owned and endorsed by GW?<br />
Grey Knights have access to gear that no other forces do<br />
>You mean like Nemesis weaponry that Gabriel has?<br />
Grey Knights aren't Space Marines!<br />
>Oh? Well the first few paragraphs in the codex say otherwise.<br />
You can't use Blood Ravens because they are documented in the Space Marine Codex<br />
>So? This was before the announcement of the Grey Knight Codex.<br />
<br />
Now to continue my thought with the previous reason. They are perfectly okay with me making up a chapter to use as Grey Knights, it is the fact that I'm using a previously known chapter as space marines. So basically they wouldn't want me to use blue models with gold lining on them and call them Ultramarines but it would be okay if I took blue models with gold lining and called the 'papa smurfs'. No I'm not joking they said that would be okay.<br />
<br />
So? Thoughts? I've decided that that I'm going to do what I want because I'm not gaming the rules and playing the game the way I want to. Literally their only problem is that my Grey Knights would be red and called Blood Ravens. I wouldn't be proxying but converting...and since 'this has never happened' I shouldn't do it.<br />
<br />
Let me know..."Knowledge is Power"ServvsUmbrarumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10983110283934378767noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5202714478370493691.post-11332966701661326262012-01-28T07:17:00.000-05:002012-01-28T07:17:02.392-05:00Attempt No. 2!Greetings Everyone!<br />
<br />
Okay, life has been extremely busy but I'm going to (once again) try to rekindle the light of my blog. I've got some ideas and have bought plenty of models (even new armies) but seem to be in a painting and playing rut. Right now I've got a stack of model kits (no less than 5 kits high) that I've purchased but have yet to even open.<br />
<br />
Off the top of my head they include:<br />
1 Furioso Dreadnought<br />
2 Immortal / Deathmark Squads<br />
1 Ghost / Doomsday Ark<br />
1 Imotekh the Stormlord<br />
1 Cryptek<br />
1 Chimera<br />
1 Cadian Shock Troop Squad<br />
<br />
I'm sure there are more and normally I'd take an inventory to make sure it is accurate but I feel I need to focus on just getting some content on this blog.<br />
<br />
So why have I not been able to post? Well really it has been a combination of not feeling I had anything to post and other things in life. But, I got to thinking and I feel that I don't have anything to post...because I'm not posting. I'm trying to kick start this circle of hobby again of blog, paint and play but we will see what happens. I'll admit the release of Skyrim and The Old Republic have not helped.<br />
<br />
So, once again I hope this helps to start posting again, I'd like to start by taking some pictures of my current model count and start committing to painting at least once a week.<br />

So! Here is hoping!<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Cover from the new Codex</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
So, I've had some time to read through the new Necron Codex and even make a list or two. And there sits my stack of Necron kit boxes and me sitting here to absorb this new codex and my thoughts on it. I must say it is somewhat of a mixed bag of feelings and I'm not entirely sure if my concerns are well founded. Let me explain why...I started playing with a Marine Codex, specifically the Blood Angels and I feel this was both a boon and a hindrance.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Why do I feel this way? Well while it is true that the Marine codex's make a great start for beginners and even better for learning the game it also sets newbies (like myself) with a false set of standards with above average infantry (4's across the board) and cheap but good vehicles as well. I think this has eschewed my perception of other armies and this is especially true with the release of Grey Knights. Now I know how people have constantly mentioned that GW seems to have puppy love for their Marines and this maybe true but I have trouble subscribing to the same train of thought and if I ever truly felt that way I'd probably just stop playing and go to another war-game (Infinity and Warmachine are the bit games at my LGS right now).<br />
<br />
So the purpose of this little rant was as much as for you all than it was for me..I kept saying 'that's good but Grey Knights...' and I do not feel that is fair to any codex really. As you will see in my next few posts (yes this will be a multi-post review) I personally feel that BOTH Grey Knights and Necrons feel a bit...incomplete. I'll explain why over the next few posts more in depth.<br />
<br />
At this point I just wanted to get some initial thoughts on record how I feel about the latest army. I also plan to speak on my previously mentioned concerns and thoughts (from the previous post). So lets get started:<br />
<br />
Overall:<br />
I love Necrons, their fluff and their overall theme is amazing but I'm not sure if Mr. Ward nailed it on the head. It almost seemed like Grey Knights were in the back of his head saying "don't make a better codex than us" or "don't add that it's too similar to our codex or will screw us over". I could be wrong, but that is just my newbie impression. The codex also feels incomplete, where are my FOC changes? Why do they mention that X HQ model likes to employ scarabs but not let him take them as troops? We have a Cryptek HQ who does nothing for other Crypteks? There is like a page dedicated to a crownworld that has been infected with the flayed one disease and is ruled by an overlord who seems to be immune to it (although they kind of say he isn't) and he sends out monthly 'hunts' for flesh. So...great can't wait to see the HQ that they have for him...only...they don't. Also constantly seeing amazing close combat stuff then realizing it is completely wasted on Init 2. This makes the Initiate a sad sad newbie. On the other hand we have some amazing things (I honestly think that 2 squads of 20 warriors with a Ghost Ark in tow will cause some pain! And let me say I LOVE THE CRYPTEKS. Any kind of model that adjusts the way a squad works is amazing. Lastly I am saddened to see that some of the best (in my opinion) vehicles are not even models yet...<br />
<br />
Leadership 10:<br />
I still think this is a great ability and 'fluffy' too. LD10 means that they are rarely going to run away causing them to lose Reanimation Protocol rolls. It also means they may stand up a bit more in assault as it will take several wound losses to lower that to something that is going to be hard to roll. Unfortunately on that note if they fail they will more than likely get swept.<br />
<br />
Initiative 2:<br />
Originally I said this didn't bother me too much...and for a vast majority of the codex I still feel that way. But the so called close combat models are just not resilient enough to live till initiative 2. One thing is that they at least go before power fist and thunder hammer but I think that is the only reason they are going at I2 instead of I1. I understand they are meant to be uber slow. I get that, really I do...they are slow but precise like it and even love it...but if you want to match the lore the close combat models need a higher toughness and a higher weapon skill to match. A great example of a unit that could have met this goal while being I2 is Lychguard but I feel they failed at that (I'll discuss this more when I get into that unit itself).<br />
<br />
Psychic Defense:<br />
For an army that has zero reaction to the warp they have only one psychic defense model in the game. And it is a fairly pathetic one at that. Maybe I've been looking at this wrong. Maybe my thought of neigh indestructible slow moving but precise robots that are supposed to shrug off even anti-tank rounds should shrug off psyker powers as well. Even when they do get knocked down they get back up. Maybe they are trying to say that because the Necron have no presence in the warp they are weak to it? I mean come to think of it the old ones did create the Eldar to fight this. I don't know though it kind of goes against the feel of the army still. Anyway let me go over the only psychic defense they have:<br />
<br />
1) Only on one unit<br />
2) Its in the heavy support (an already contested slot)<br />
3) It is a paid upgrade (15 Points)<br />
4) I'll just say it, it is the new Tomb Spyder, can be fielded in groups of 3 but no mention of being able to operate independently! That alone makes me sad.<br />
5) It is basically a toned down Runic Blade (Space Wolf Rune Priest). You need a 4+ and it only works if you are targeted (not just any psychic power cast) and only works on units within 3 inches!<br />
<br />
To be honest, I don't see many people taking these I see people mainly just forgoing psychic defense and hoping for the best. This upgrade (gloom prism) should have been on HQ's in my opinion. In fact I'd like to see it across multiple units (Crypteks, Lords, Overlords, maybe some vehicles.) but only time will tell on this front.<br />
<br />
Mobility:<br />
<br />
This is still a mixed bag, it has a good deal of fast moving models and a lot of slow moving ones as well, the nice thing is I really like the way the codex did this. I've already got a list together that I think that would allow me to creeping doom (I'm moving slow but I'm eventually going to get to you and when I do...brains!) and I've also put together a list that just completely ignores your long range in favor for getting up the field fast under the cover of darkness! So I'm really looking forward to playing with some of this mobility and lack there of in this army.<br />
<br />
Well...This is it for now, next I'll be writing up a wargear and universal (necron) ability review. Let me know what you think Please remember I'm a newbie and this is why I post these things, maybe some of you senior players like to know what your local newbies are thinking? Am I wrong about something? Well tell me! All I ask is keep it polite and constructive otherwise tear the comments apart!<br />

Knowledge is Power...ServvsUmbrarumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10983110283934378767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5202714478370493691.post-89448201055545711662011-11-05T03:47:00.000-04:002011-11-05T03:47:23.851-04:00Initial Thoughts on the Necron**This was something I was writing up before I received the Necron Codex. I now have it and will be writing a 'review' of it soon. I simply wanted to post what I had to see the opinions I had before receiving said codex, enjoy** <br />
<br />
So I thought I'd cast some thoughts into the worst kept secret from GW. Namely the Newest codex:<br />
<br />
To begin with I'd like to discuss some of the themes on the army as we know it. Please note that I DO NOT have access to a leaked codex or anything of the sort. I am simply going by what I've read in White Dwarf, The GW site and the occasional leaked information (namely <a href="http://www.3plusplus.net/">3++</a> and <a href="http://natfka.blogspot.com/">Faeit 211</a>) so please take this with a grain of salt (even less since I'm new to the game by comparison to most of you).<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://thedemotivators.com/wp-content/uploads/original/2010_12/leadership-tests.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="http://thedemotivators.com/wp-content/uploads/original/2010_12/leadership-tests.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Leadership 10:</b><br />
I really wonder how this will effect the codex. Generally it matches the codex of 'no fear' I mean if you body was a adamantium skeleton that could be repaired and rebuilt at a moments notice. Basically this army is composed of a battalion of 12 year old Call of Duty Players. So Necrons will manage most morale checks and leadership checks fairly easily. But in assault will probably end up losing combat and may end of failing morale with the modifiers. At that point they would be rolling for sweeping advance...which leads me to another issue.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMdns28fxpNgeFaaf2tVuUCsxE0BFDb9FWy3R-NpI0q-hW7eQSgYcDhzSTLweZwqx0tCPC1K_UwpNwA7i0PJlj3DKzOrABWFbj5qTbfPS4GbUnTaaM64RKIeODXwtNiCKNnv0nOaXTjiLa/s1600/Dynamic+Entry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMdns28fxpNgeFaaf2tVuUCsxE0BFDb9FWy3R-NpI0q-hW7eQSgYcDhzSTLweZwqx0tCPC1K_UwpNwA7i0PJlj3DKzOrABWFbj5qTbfPS4GbUnTaaM64RKIeODXwtNiCKNnv0nOaXTjiLa/s320/Dynamic+Entry.jpg" width="256" /></a></div>
<b>Initiative 2:</b>As a ranged focus army this doesn't really bother me all that much. Considering the vast survivability of this it needs to have a weakness but I'm not sure if I2 is really too much...maybe I3 so it goes after quicker units (like space marines). One issue I do have this with is the so-called 'close combat specialists' of this codex still appeared to be I2, I am hoping they have some kind of wargear or special rule that buffs this. The highest Initiative I seen was 4 and that was with the C'tan Shards. The world of Force Halberds and Death Cult Assassins I fear even the melee focused ones will just get swept aside before even attacking. Needless to say unless the close combat specialist have something up their sleeves the Necron may see itself just shooting and forgoing some of the frankly awesome models that focus on assault (necron Stormshield terminators FTW!).<br />
<br />
<b>Psychic Defense:</b><br />
I have not seen any form of psychic defense noted well...anywhere. This concerns me greatly but they really haven't gotten into many of the units that would normally get defense (HQs mainly) but we've also noticed big themes across the entire army in the form of special abilities like Decent of Angels, Power from Pain, Counter Attack, and the many Grey Knight ones. So I'm hoping there is some kind of "necron" type that gives a good psychic defense because (although I'm not sure if this has changed) they are completely removed from the warp with means they might be resistant to psychic attacks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmRKxNh7yG6VDljjBYTU493SLDzseROdQehUWwZvhwOuwR2qg5fAeYHzaZ732utg67K5cD4s3ggu_t4-mlaNvjg0HlqfKwqrcyriQcAqEh80d5xX3GFEx1LE_DkkAP8lRp-ATcnPgiiq2g/s1600/segway_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="207" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmRKxNh7yG6VDljjBYTU493SLDzseROdQehUWwZvhwOuwR2qg5fAeYHzaZ732utg67K5cD4s3ggu_t4-mlaNvjg0HlqfKwqrcyriQcAqEh80d5xX3GFEx1LE_DkkAP8lRp-ATcnPgiiq2g/s320/segway_1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Mobility:</b><br />
This is kind of a mixed bag, I see a lot of potential here in the ways of fast skimmers, deep-striking, and jump infantry. But at the same time I see a lot of room for kind of 'undead tide' Ork-ish mindset and frankly that sounds pretty awesome. But time will tell, the Ghost Ark only holds ten models so it leaves a full 20 man Warrior squad kind of hoofing it or being spit out by a Monolith (I'm making the assumption this is still possible). Apparently there is a Crypttek model that can be attached to squads that allows it to do something similar to Gate of Infinity as well and this could add a lot...although I would be weary about placing a 20 man squad.<br />
<br />
<b>Wolf Guard:</b><br />
From what I can tell the Cryptek and Lords are basically going to work like a Wolf Guard which I love. It adds a huge amount of customization for the otherwise lackluster warrior squad (not sure if they can be added to other squads). All that remains is the point cost for the upgrades as the teks are apparently 35 and the lords are 45. So for a few points adding a 'tech power' or buff to the squad could be really nice.ServvsUmbrarumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10983110283934378767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5202714478370493691.post-17057682826043891702011-10-29T07:09:00.000-04:002011-10-29T07:09:07.509-04:00Armored ColumnI thought I'd get things started with posting my current 1850, which I call the Blood Raven Armored Column. I'll also be providing some of my basic strategies. Now let me be clear that this list is not optimized in anyway shape or form. I know the models aren't optimized but they are the models I currently have and my focus is just getting 1850 games played (my thought is experience is gained and I've so much to learn it doesn't matter).<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
So, My list:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdQ6eZrQSr5-_M8rjubTIpmVMogbgq7OpRkH44D91Te74YBw9ZqeF6g6fX3VETL0Xiv-nJnD7d89zRCgoQy9eoAXcubZ1APVJOnzUlQmBx0KsKDENe_4KfBZ6WrEvDfWusKHfFSI_kMp0/s1600/untitled.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdQ6eZrQSr5-_M8rjubTIpmVMogbgq7OpRkH44D91Te74YBw9ZqeF6g6fX3VETL0Xiv-nJnD7d89zRCgoQy9eoAXcubZ1APVJOnzUlQmBx0KsKDENe_4KfBZ6WrEvDfWusKHfFSI_kMp0/s640/untitled.bmp" width="284" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Yes, I know it is Excel. I prefer it as it helps me learn my list.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>The Tactics:</b> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So, 1 Librarian, 2 Land Raiders and a bucket load of Rhino Chassis's. My general tactic is to stay at range and just pelt my opponent with as much focused fired as possible. I feel against most lists I have an advantage as my entire army is mech so their normal anti-infantry range will be normally useless. As my entire army is able to focus just on their anti-mech units. In otherwords 100% of my army is able to focus on 50% of his army while his 50% must focus on my 100%...double win. At least that is my thought in concept.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Why AV13:</b> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Because it is cheaper than AV14 and doesn't hurt as much verses lance but provides a solid defense against 'light anti-mech' guns such as Missile Launchers, Autocannons, etc. Also since it is cheap it is spam-able enough to create target saturation and combined fire.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>What this list is NOT:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This list is not about the infantry as the majority of the time the infantry are dead as soon as their can is popped. With that revelation and understanding that AV13 is where my army shines I've resigned away from RazorSpam and focusing on my Elite, Fast, Heavy Vehicles. Ultimately I'd like to have at least 3 Razorbacks to provide scoring.<b></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>The Weakness:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So, where am I suffering here? Well, I seem to have a big issue with assaults. Generally if they take the time to assault my vehicles they are gone. I try to counter this by always moving 6 inches and 12 is possible. The problem I run into is space as I'm constantly having to shift my vehicles I run out of room fast. Also being that the models I have are not optimized I encounter another issue there.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>What's Next:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'd like to expand my Fast Attacks with more Baal Predators and remove a Land Raider. It is my personal opinion that Land Raiders are not worth their points (and even less so when it doesn't have a big killy squad inside it). So, I plan to remove a Land Raider freeing up well over 300 points and add at least one Baal Predator. The real strength of this list will be the AV13 wall. So I need more Baal Predators, Vindicators, Predators and Furioso Dreadnoughts. Ultimately, I plan to have 3 Baal Predators, 2 Vindicators, 1 Predator and 2 Furioso Dreadnoughts. The rest of the points will be invested into Razorbacks and a Liberian.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>What I'm Undecided About:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm not sure what turret I want for the Razorback, being the weakest armor in my list I'd like to put TL Lascannons and call it a day as they sit in the back and peck at their targets. But at the same time I cannot deny how effective the TL Assault Cannon is against most targets. Also I'm not 100% on the Heavy Bolters on the Baal Predators.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Regardless only time will tell on what I do with this list. I'm open to any and all suggestions or comments. So by all means please let me know! Got a list that will table me? Show me and let me know what I can to better combat it.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So my questions to you all:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Where are my weaknesses?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
What list(s) will give me trouble?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Where can I improve?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Does anyone have experience with a similar list? And what do you do?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<br />
Okay, let me start by saying that I am sorry to the people that took the time to read, comment and subscribe to my blog. I have been very busy with both things related and unrelated with Warhammer 40k. So with that said I'm going to focus on bringing this up to date with some (hopefully) great content from the perceptive of a brand new player (Hey, that sounds like a great blog idea!).<br />
<br />
Here are a few things I plan to do over the next few days:<br />
1) I played my first two 1850 games and I will be providing a battle report on the second game.<br />
2) I finally got my color scheme right, I'll be showing that off and possibly providing a step by step.<br />
3) I...love...Necron. They were my first real army and my overall favorite army so...obviously I got to talk about them.<br />
4) I joined the IC Hobby Challenge and I'll be documenting that here.<br />
5) I've been listening to a lot of pod-casts, so naturally I'm going to review them.<br />
<br />
These things and much more to come!ServvsUmbrarumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10983110283934378767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5202714478370493691.post-38295901535370386332011-08-07T14:26:00.003-04:002011-08-07T14:27:19.838-04:00Should I regret my color scheme?<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Don't remember where I got this image, but it is not mine and claim no right to it.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
For those of you who don't know I play a Blood Raven color scheme Blood Angels army. The picture above gives a good indication of what they look like. With that said I am kind of regretting my chapter choice. Why? Well I love the lore, the appearance, just about everything...except that blasted red.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
The red I'm referring to is the "Blood Raven Red" color. This color is impossible to match to my satisfaction. I continue to explore possibilities of colors and my army looks like a mix and match of various reds. I am constantly told to pick a red that I like and make it my own...trouble is I like the red that I see but cannot match it.<br />
<br />
Here are some of the techniques I've tried:<br />
<br />
1) Prime black, basecoat Mechrite Red (GW). This was my first technique and was way to dark for my liking, it looks 'okay' for a single model and even tanks but for a table top it is way to dark to be correct.<br />
<br />
2) Prime the model with Army Painter "Dragon Red". This works pretty well but it is a bit to orange for my liking.<br />
<br />
3) Prime black, Burnt Umber (VA), then Fire red and light coat of Italian Red on the top half of the model. Gives me the brown I need but still doesn't look right. This is the formula I'm currently working on.<br />
<br />
So what is the problem? I need a red that is lighter than Mechrite but darker than Blood Red with a tint of brown. I got a technique from Jawaballs I'm going to try soon and I've thought about mixing some Blood Red and Dark Flesh. We will see how that works...<br />
<br />
So any suggestions? Please feel free to comment I need to get this settled before I can really get into my army!<br />

I meant to get to this post a long time ago but one day turned into two which turned into a week, and so on. Here is a quick update on some of my progress in a very shorthand manner.<br />
<br />
I bought an Airbursh and Compressor. Cost me about 100$ (US) but was worth it.<br />
My Baal Predator is assembled, primed and ready to be my first Airbrushed model.<br />
I played a game of 40k in which I'm going to try to do my first battle report soon.<br />
Oh, I got into a beta for a little game you might have heard of by the name of "The Old Republic"<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnpB2o1wkJcdqwbYKMjGS5gyndrJOJ2-7dR_IBhYq3o1kGuS0YdZb0muuXFaP_luAbHU2I0A5SiA-ep3cRNSz-WpPNXvZ5VhUoaDLOO-rZ7CqkZY7ty0ixNUk6zd0sGB3YAHQGGPGcnBw/s1600/images.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnpB2o1wkJcdqwbYKMjGS5gyndrJOJ2-7dR_IBhYq3o1kGuS0YdZb0muuXFaP_luAbHU2I0A5SiA-ep3cRNSz-WpPNXvZ5VhUoaDLOO-rZ7CqkZY7ty0ixNUk6zd0sGB3YAHQGGPGcnBw/s1600/images.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Empire is the only true path!</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Wait...what? Yes, that is right Bioware selected me to participate in their still closed beta for "The Old Republic". I'm not 100% on what I can and cannot discuss due to the NDA (it had a lot of lawyer speak and I'm going by what I feel was the spirit of the agreement) but I was assured saying that I'm in the beta is okay.<br />
<br />
I will say that the game is awesome! Yes, it is rough around the edges and has some incomplete items but even in its current version I'd gladly drop 60$ for this game. If you are looking forward to TOR apply for the beta and believe that it is worth the wait.<br />
<br />
For now, I'm going to get back to putting my lightsaber through republic scum!<br />
<br />

It can be very easy to forget when you are a senior member of any community that new hobbyist may not have all of the life lessons that you've experienced. So, I hope that all of you that has seen something similar to this bare with me. In fact, why not comment? Just remember, be productive!<br />
<br />
I have another product review and this one is about that product that many use to get off paint of their older (and in my case inferior) models. I've seen a lot of recommendations on this product so I was hoping for good results.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM2RvxvK2gdLmrhdfJ_Z4AaBQ_Folf26jq22X5Q6q87aVrT_yxGunHUvyShUb_JDBKucDBHwr704M3Z8BbdXZ6Vb54wdIJwhVxLc1KhRllfldRRUtiZFzou6ZoOQd7l24AxTQRRYRe3Xo/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM2RvxvK2gdLmrhdfJ_Z4AaBQ_Folf26jq22X5Q6q87aVrT_yxGunHUvyShUb_JDBKucDBHwr704M3Z8BbdXZ6Vb54wdIJwhVxLc1KhRllfldRRUtiZFzou6ZoOQd7l24AxTQRRYRe3Xo/s400/1.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Marines are required to carry a bottle of this when going into battle against Nurgle's Filthy Minions!</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<a name='more'></a>I've been told using 'simple green' to remove paint from my models is well...simple so let us see!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyji-e8I7EmbaH52izKSnIInO7ohpZ-fAC8ahz1ecK3s3vt3EOQ6_iFF2b7PQlcN6rXeFXCN-tmzV1tGKemL7Fch_zu-_4LmO27PnO2I7yng6iQ7wzYvCeCMOJ-35_e5x1A8RSeKR0IRU/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyji-e8I7EmbaH52izKSnIInO7ohpZ-fAC8ahz1ecK3s3vt3EOQ6_iFF2b7PQlcN6rXeFXCN-tmzV1tGKemL7Fch_zu-_4LmO27PnO2I7yng6iQ7wzYvCeCMOJ-35_e5x1A8RSeKR0IRU/s400/1.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">In you go! Techmarine knows best!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>So without any consideration for the well-being for my AOBR Marines I dumped them in a tub of this.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhWQks9ixky0A42xFLommYIbtbZCsyFXkHwrB62aevB0aFARN8F_CvoKe5vKgFZ2WJDXW7hhegaXmOhfDo_XtUS5dnWRGqP5RKA_4ThrrOvNziplPzvGW-xOnvSJv3IES8Z6glIzmmW54/s1600/2011-06-11_16-31-47_508.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhWQks9ixky0A42xFLommYIbtbZCsyFXkHwrB62aevB0aFARN8F_CvoKe5vKgFZ2WJDXW7hhegaXmOhfDo_XtUS5dnWRGqP5RKA_4ThrrOvNziplPzvGW-xOnvSJv3IES8Z6glIzmmW54/s400/2011-06-11_16-31-47_508.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Are we sure Nurgle has nothing to do with this? Its very...green.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
A few hours later, I got them out, scrubbed them with a tooth brush and let them dry. Here are the results.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij7lKPzKYgTUBko-SycsyOu27juWrP7z7JYy2pMne46leAepa3QOgKz5cWpriuyBSSnp0vEKWiDQQuME7gECwpMyewzogxPynjjCZYzGlmnzuM6TqM9HSWzp85AwX2KvULBMo2gcVctJc/s1600/Dry+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij7lKPzKYgTUBko-SycsyOu27juWrP7z7JYy2pMne46leAepa3QOgKz5cWpriuyBSSnp0vEKWiDQQuME7gECwpMyewzogxPynjjCZYzGlmnzuM6TqM9HSWzp85AwX2KvULBMo2gcVctJc/s400/Dry+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Hmm...Paint removed...well almost...but they are black, GW is strong in the primer category.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Hmm, I was hoping to remove the primer as well. I've read that some are saying that with the new GW Primer this isn't possible. I guess I shouldn't complain as a the model is still very much usable! So over the course of a few days I got them out, scrubbed them and then soaked them in hot water. After some air drying they went back into the green tub.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">After the paint started coming off well I dunked a Dreadnought in as well.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>So? My results? Well for six dollars I'm satisfied with the results. I would have liked the primer to come off and there is still a small bit of red on the models here and there. Here is a link of the marines themselves close up.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcS1Y6SS6DZv5hejm10Zkamd4n772PzKFZ5Fz9rIZi8S_TnXnMfCuOJziy2Fe2DABlqymXvHOga3vxrI-DRUdR33GvOUp38gYrN_kfqCrZ578NlRiw6JMy1MiXnyhvSy_L1qqD7jZVEAk/s1600/2011-06-20_06-50-27_442.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcS1Y6SS6DZv5hejm10Zkamd4n772PzKFZ5Fz9rIZi8S_TnXnMfCuOJziy2Fe2DABlqymXvHOga3vxrI-DRUdR33GvOUp38gYrN_kfqCrZ578NlRiw6JMy1MiXnyhvSy_L1qqD7jZVEAk/s400/2011-06-20_06-50-27_442.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">They are ready for a fresh layer of primer then some new paint!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Final Thoughts: Worth the money but I'm not convinced there isn't a better way to do this. I ended up leaving them in the simple green tub for almost a week. I did not try resign part of me would rather just buy new models and put them together to start fresh. But, I needed some test models for some new painting techniques for the Raven Red Armor (all my assault marines look like test models) and I plan to use them in a few upcoming challenges, more to come on that soon.<br />
<br />
So what do you all think? Is there a better method or is the best I'm going to get? Did I do something wrong? I still have a whole other squad to dip as well so there is room for improvement. Don't hesitate to give me your thoughts.<br />

Please don't be shy in providing feedback. I also welcome criticism and suggestions just understand that I've only been painting since October 2010 and make sure it is productive. Here we go!<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">And...we have Tanks!</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Behold! The Blood Ravens first reinforcements to stem off the tide of the Xeno, the Heritic and Unclean! Okay to be fair, the two TL Lascannon Razorbacks have already been featured but I thought they looked col so sue me.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Land Raider, when it absolutely must reach the battlefield with overwhelming amounts of awesome!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>I am really happy with how this monster came out. To the point that I show him off to guests who don't even play 40k. Oddly enough I think the Assault Launchers came out the best and just makes the entire model pop. It really wasn't that hard to paint other than deciding a few colors here and there.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My friends say the interior is too 'clean' and high class for a vehicle of death and destruction. I say let them say that after my terminators clean their armies' entrails off their armor!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>I even did the interior. Now let me say I won't ever do this again unless for some reason I start to enter for painting competitions. I know how awesome the interior is but no one else can really see the work and results without excessive lighting and time.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Notice the side door is left open just a bit.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>I had a problem. I went through the effort of painting the side door panels (the inside ones with the door and utility closet) and damned if I was going to just glue the doors shut. So I went for an 'action pose'. To be fair I'm sure I'll have to glue them shut eventually as they will probably break off.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">No enemy shall ever see this unless its the last bloody vision as they realize all their bones are crushed!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>A picture of the back. Overall I'm very pleased with this. Just one thing now, it needs name. I think I'll avoid thinking about that till it spills some blood for the Emperor.<br />
<br />
So? Thoughts? Suggestions, questions, death threats? What can I do to ensure my next tank is even more epic? Come one link me a good tutorial, technique or better color scheme?<br />

Believe me it is not from a lack of content. Actually, I've been really busy and hope to have a few posts up here soon. So let me start by announcing the results of my poll. I hope you all voted because you are going to be seeing a lot more polls in the future! So without further let us talk about the post as it is.<br />

This is a very popular model from what I can tell for any Blood Angel player. Fast, Scout and has TL Assault Cannon...so whats not to love? Oh, did I mention it has the Predator AV value!<br />
<br />
As of posting this I've yet to actually begin assembly but I hope to soon! I'll be posting up a new hobby progress article with what I've actually completed. So, I hope you all look forward to this tank slowly coming together!<br />

For the longest time the Baal Predator was winning this but in the last few hours the Attack Bike squad creeped up.<br />
<br />
Now I'm left with a tie, Baal Predator and Attack Bike both with 4 votes. So I'm going to resolve it the best way I can. The first person to comment with which one I should buy will be the deciding factor! So hurry up and comment.<br />

Only 16 hours left before they complete. I'd really like everyone's input. I plan to buy whatever model wins the tally and will probably buy a starter kit of the other wargame that people say I should look into. So vote away! If you already have thank you for your input.<br />

So below I have a screen-shot (blogspot doesn't like excel) of the list I'd like to try. I like the theme...tons of dakka and a wall of 13 AV.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_nJOkqfYYgqOP7PF0H5TKYJQ9UJXWeEJnCxq4vvZPJsbb7jSUOIK6kmdSbJWls2M7V_WliqLtgj-s9dLW25ftoawIbBKmaXGi8Y-1tZ1OcTNlWOKYitnLO3NDSBfanle5anDvW6X5pJA/s1600/untitled.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_nJOkqfYYgqOP7PF0H5TKYJQ9UJXWeEJnCxq4vvZPJsbb7jSUOIK6kmdSbJWls2M7V_WliqLtgj-s9dLW25ftoawIbBKmaXGi8Y-1tZ1OcTNlWOKYitnLO3NDSBfanle5anDvW6X5pJA/s640/untitled.bmp" width="323" /></a></div>One thing you will notice it is a complete mech angel list. Secondly you will notice that there is no deathstar and no 'extra-armor'. My thought on this is that I have a combined forces list here. Similar to an IG 'leaf-blower' list I have so much going out in the ways of fire power my opponent will be unable to react to every threat. Or the "oh, you stunned my predator? It's okay I got two more for you!" mentality.<br />
<br />
Here is the setup. The 10 (yes 10) tanks will shoot away while advancing with the Dreadnoughts in between them. The goal is to keep as many tanks in the 6 inch bubble of the Librarian. The advance will be done in 6-12 inch movements depending on my opponent but considering I have 10 Lascannons (3 TL) shooting from round one and 6 S7 (Autocannons) shooting as well I see little that could stand up against this 'rolling thunder' build. Also I like the 13 front armor. Its hard to penetrate but low enough not to lose huge value from 'lance' and finally...its cheap enough to reproduce so that rending doesn't destroy me. Even a broadside is going to need 4+ to pen and I don't see enough anti-vehicle in most lists to stop this tide. And of course, the Furioso's are there to prevent charges and deal with hordes.<br />
<br />
So thoughts people? I really need some feedback. The biggest problem I have with this build is that I'd need to buy a lot of expensive models!<br />

Mind you this is a fairly cheap Necron army that I painted up in a matter of days. So without further, here we go!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcvJsYXAN_T130Vr7NhstOgDj8G5r1ypUZU16iQxR7LFlwPf2YjP4pRiCKqhLo_AQRCrPWX14PXUWVkYyRodzjRXngAI1NuQ4irrUSB3Tg9C6t_9YB6AKVozBjwNeiO95ta3zN3XT1Roo/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcvJsYXAN_T130Vr7NhstOgDj8G5r1ypUZU16iQxR7LFlwPf2YjP4pRiCKqhLo_AQRCrPWX14PXUWVkYyRodzjRXngAI1NuQ4irrUSB3Tg9C6t_9YB6AKVozBjwNeiO95ta3zN3XT1Roo/s320/7.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Not a huge force by any stretch.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<a name='more'></a>Two Necron Lords and two warrior box kits. The 'how' I got all this is worth mentioning. To begin with I bought both warrior kits for like 10$ each on eBay which is quite the steal. I went to my LGS to buy a Necron Lord to complete the army and the only two kits they had were missing their glow rods. I gave the kits to the person in charge (Mike) and he wrote them off and gave them both to me! He said that they were unsellable now and that I spent enough there that he'd rather just give them to me. The last step was buying the glow rod replacements from eBay.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu5p4tw4OGpbBiQP-0qAjE3rCLKdgDX3qCbfSI-3FOAn8l2ZGdPvti2H8_Thp2-ylE1zBZSyOfoB9OVp8pmP1WRZyi534pdYe0XHl1J7rMbNcjAgfZ2bF2eTZVvE16MpjOqX4OqOZQGYQ/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu5p4tw4OGpbBiQP-0qAjE3rCLKdgDX3qCbfSI-3FOAn8l2ZGdPvti2H8_Thp2-ylE1zBZSyOfoB9OVp8pmP1WRZyi534pdYe0XHl1J7rMbNcjAgfZ2bF2eTZVvE16MpjOqX4OqOZQGYQ/s320/1.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Their leader. I didn't spend much time on him maybe an hour or two.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Adhering to my current level of models I painted the Necron Lord and gave him a unique base. Now I didn't spent tons of time on him and that is mainly because his model lacks the level of detail giving to most current edition codex models. I honestly probably spent more time on the base than him and after painting he was quickshaded which did come out pretty well.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsaxgaznXA45Q4LSG_rx7XLkCmgBPwhm_JQvJqFXMwwiOrkQoI5FDSx_g_DM4voTIAqz4Giw0vKTksyjVm6kuHk8eH4f_c7vboMmvXWhn_AAHJH3uBv1ZX4W3FLKmnCa_mV3PAfv2cESA/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsaxgaznXA45Q4LSG_rx7XLkCmgBPwhm_JQvJqFXMwwiOrkQoI5FDSx_g_DM4voTIAqz4Giw0vKTksyjVm6kuHk8eH4f_c7vboMmvXWhn_AAHJH3uBv1ZX4W3FLKmnCa_mV3PAfv2cESA/s320/3.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">For the amount of effort these guys look great!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>The scarabs were easy too. Army Painter Chainmail followed by black lined eyes with Blood Red and I'm done! The basing is actually black plastic sand a friend found.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg2ukxNV82YB3QpBq8iZrv3af3NhjuUTgAQaEgZ9SbHwjSHLGKi7zsN22r7mP7a0VMK-jZG8cY2aXgtZ_fQlfrOAJeGQ1ldfylXiRjmKqLGtSIWMAFbJaldE5Qx15ysKoTEoBYkMjFWKY/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg2ukxNV82YB3QpBq8iZrv3af3NhjuUTgAQaEgZ9SbHwjSHLGKi7zsN22r7mP7a0VMK-jZG8cY2aXgtZ_fQlfrOAJeGQ1ldfylXiRjmKqLGtSIWMAFbJaldE5Qx15ysKoTEoBYkMjFWKY/s320/4.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Warrior...stop crying you will get an update soon enough.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Lastly, the Necron Warrior. He was done the same level of the scarab only his 'glow tube' is scorpion green. All models (including the Lord) were quickshaded with the medium tone after being sprayed with Army Painter Chainmail. Eyes were all blacklined and then given a dot of blood red.<br />
<br />
I feel this is a good example of how to get an army to 'table-top' quality easily for a new player. It is certainly not going to be scoring any big painting points but it does have the three color minimum and is based. So what do you all think? At this point its just a small demonstration army for a quick skirmish (500 point) battle and doesn't even have a monolith. Oh and the other Necron Lord? He had a bad encounter with the Army Painter Anti-Shine and looks very foggy. Normally I'd toss him or at very least strip him and start over but for the sake of this demonstration army it isn't worth it.<br />
<br />
So what will become of these guys? Well, for now they are sitting in a cabinet waiting for someone to try. I won't be expanding them unless they get a codex update or I start having to give a lot more demonstration battles.<br />

I'm going to start by saying I'm holding off on the Fluff for a bit. Doesn't seem to add anything and I really don't get the traffic to justify it (hopefully yet). With that said I've got two polls up on the right I'd really appreciate you all making clicky clicky on. If you have a moment please leave comments! I need to know what you all think and generally just need feedback.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
With that out of the way I have a few photos of my Ravens that I've completed. So lets take a look!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLQ4H713mPPgQIQjaYBO6r0OsMThgTEcT2J9R1HdkQ3Io8QWgwNLkI_OLO-rYwVbHdhdSLXoUcSjtfTNrKZ_32gSgvCQ_RdmCLCR2cCwt4fTRPjn1FQl4oa_OGc0u6OQ8xepWpzmqtb4Q/s1600/252226_1797938543358_1086593049_31565240_5267770_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLQ4H713mPPgQIQjaYBO6r0OsMThgTEcT2J9R1HdkQ3Io8QWgwNLkI_OLO-rYwVbHdhdSLXoUcSjtfTNrKZ_32gSgvCQ_RdmCLCR2cCwt4fTRPjn1FQl4oa_OGc0u6OQ8xepWpzmqtb4Q/s400/252226_1797938543358_1086593049_31565240_5267770_n.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A Dark Angels Marine with a Death Company chain sword.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>This model is the first fully completed 'standard' marine. I know it is a Dark Angels model but this is how to represent my Sergeants. I like the robed look and it does deviate slightly from the "Blood Raven" lore. One thing I really like about the marine models it that he could be a Assault Marine, a Veteran, or even a Blood Claw / Grey Hunter. I just have so many options for a Marine player!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsyWagcN2qRFFQ_44DcV1Orh8_6yAbLVdBs_b7BGecY_dqZ0j4tgw9_ndexwxiKT0c0HVA4s_Bu3bdTGbpjvzy3Fm8rxVZ85auY7TGkoSwGHEltcFzTBZaBcMVCSCfIfLkNiSxG_ut6Jw/s1600/250456_1797941463431_1086593049_31565242_8212153_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsyWagcN2qRFFQ_44DcV1Orh8_6yAbLVdBs_b7BGecY_dqZ0j4tgw9_ndexwxiKT0c0HVA4s_Bu3bdTGbpjvzy3Fm8rxVZ85auY7TGkoSwGHEltcFzTBZaBcMVCSCfIfLkNiSxG_ut6Jw/s400/250456_1797941463431_1086593049_31565242_8212153_n.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">He's been done for a while the backpack is what I just finished up.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>I magnetize all of my models that could field Jump Packs so that I can go back and forth but it really seems Jump Packs are a waste of resources in competitive play. Yes I do use "Quick Shade" from Army Painter and I like the results it allows my model to be a much higher grade than I am capable of doing my hand. I hope to learn how to do this by hand soon but lack anyone to mentor me (I'd love some feedback everyone).<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Finally just decided to glue the visors and doors on.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>I have three 'Rhino' Chassis in my army and I've always magnetized the doors and just popped on the turret and visors. After some thinking I decided to glue the doors on. Why? Only two units have sponsons that use Rhino chassis and that is the Predator / Baal Predator. Well I'd not buy a turret and sponson by themselves because they'd cost just as much as the Predator in box. So why Magnetize models that don't need to be. Also if I start to want to field HKs and Stormbolters I'll just drill a bit of a hole and put a magnet on the chassis itself. By the way the 'hood' and the turret are not glued on so I can still swap turrets and put Rhino hoods on.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Yes its a TL Lascannon...I'll explain why.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>As far as the choice in armaments. I like the TL Lascannon. I really just don't use the Plasma Gun nearly as much as I'd like and this would allow the Razorback to mitigate it's biggest weakness...its AV. In addition I'm able to plop it on an objective with the troops inside it and still reasonably be able to take out targets. Where in the past I was just always moving 12 inches to get that Lascannon fired until the plasma gun was in range. This over aggressive play style for something that is effectively a vehicle sniper has caused a lot of problems.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc_E8RS9xIhfG9bYqYydA7gLoXr-VzLN6vgnV2jp0KQohHtgOXNHphQWoz4mF7tooYg68B65FI0QvNRNNAjDr85dXMqDSvz5OxckgopYW2m4-Q2uiLvV8JEo3y7ebxxm3l7KG-a4tqJig/s1600/247987_1797945303527_1086593049_31565252_3262779_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc_E8RS9xIhfG9bYqYydA7gLoXr-VzLN6vgnV2jp0KQohHtgOXNHphQWoz4mF7tooYg68B65FI0QvNRNNAjDr85dXMqDSvz5OxckgopYW2m4-Q2uiLvV8JEo3y7ebxxm3l7KG-a4tqJig/s400/247987_1797945303527_1086593049_31565252_3262779_n.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">So how did I paint it?</td></tr>
</tbody></table>As far as painting. I started with Chaos Black GW Primer and dry brushed the model with Mechrite Red. This left many black spots that could be contributed as shadows or paint wearing off. This "tank-brushing" technique is something I've played with but I'm also working with the traditional style as well. The parchment sections are bestial brown with bleached bone over (I'm now using deneb stone with bleach bone). The visors are dark angels green at the bottom with some snot green on the top section then a line of scorpion green at the top. Finally a dot of skull white in the upper left corner.<br />
<br />
So what do you all think? Good for a newbie or just horrible period? What can do to improve I want to keep pushing myself to improve and not afraid of trying new things. My second razorback is actually thoroughly painted with a devlin mud coat so we shall see how that looks when its done. Don't be shy all 7 of you I need comments!<br />

Hey everyone (all 6 of you as of typing this). I've had a few things running through my head as of late regarding the wargaming hobby and I need advice!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
As I'm nearing my first 2000 list I'm beginning to think about what I want to do next. Kind of wanted something new to do that is different than my Ravens so that I can break up the assembly line mentality I've been getting lately (somewhat felt like a zombie just painting marine after marine). My first instinct was to build another army and I really like a few so here are my options:<br />
<br />
1) First and foremost if a Sister of Battle (SOB aka Witch Hunter) 5th edition codex was announced I'd have no choice but to finish up my ravens before they release the models because although I'd never abandon my Ravens I would put them on the back burner for a bit to ramp up the Sisters. I mean who doesn't love battle nuns with flame throwers?<br />
<br />
2) The internet says that Necrons are getting a new codex...so it must be true! But in all seriousness I've always liked their lore and they were fun (if not plain) to play on the PC game. I already have a demonstration army for this faction (2 Necron Lords, 24 Warriors, 6 Scarabs Swarms) that I got for a really good price. I'm sure they'd get new models but between scarabs, warriors and the lord I don't think they'd have anything fundamentally different that prevent me from fielding these.<br />
<br />
3) Tyranid, I know that many state these guys aren't worth buying because they aren't competitive (and they aren't imperial so probably never truly will be). But they will get codex updates and my Ravens are really going to be my tournament lists and this army would be for painting or friendly fun games. Oh, I have a Hive Tyrant on the shelf already (couldn't resist buying one).<br />
<br />
4) Imperial Guard...do I want to leaf blower? I don't know a guy abandoned about a thousand points worth of these guys at my house and I've been dying to try them out. Unfortunately he bought no tanks or Chimeras (he has a lot of infantry, a Hellhound and a Basilisk). So maybe add to the army?<br />
<br />
So there are the armies I'm actually interested in. I figure to be honest my Blood Ravens can be any Marine Chapter I want them to be. Buy a few IC's for the codex in question and any unique models and there you go! I mean the Raven's don't know who their Primarch is and who's to say its not Lemon Russ or Sanquinius?<br />
<br />
Let me know what you all think? Should I start collecting a new army to break up the painting and games? Or should I just find something else to do when I get annoyed altogether and focus on getting into some tournaments with what I know?<br />
<br />

Having recently finished Warhammer 40k "Squad Command" for the PlayStation Portable I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to my first product review! It should be noted that this game has been out for a while (11/13/2007<i>) </i>so I'm looking at it from a bit skewed vision already but I'll try to take that into consideration. So sit tight and (hopefully) enjoy.<br />
<br />
Story: Its your basic Warhammer 40k Story, nasty Chaos Marines are invading a planet and its your goal to stop them. I honestly can't remember the name of the planet or any of the specific names involved but that is much the genre's fault as it is the game itself. Oh and of course you play as the Ultramarines!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcAw8sxG1TDMiJwsc6vV5fAPl1DOChaGuM2cMGxX9KW9Z-l5gvsJWT-NsXFYDigk9jzbqvfHlxNRtqauSoWCtfMQeuGxK3fUiwC7FOFK9BcvF8SEqEjixmAE9XPpHSNeXiXIOmpDjHHaE/s1600/04.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="181" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcAw8sxG1TDMiJwsc6vV5fAPl1DOChaGuM2cMGxX9KW9Z-l5gvsJWT-NsXFYDigk9jzbqvfHlxNRtqauSoWCtfMQeuGxK3fUiwC7FOFK9BcvF8SEqEjixmAE9XPpHSNeXiXIOmpDjHHaE/s320/04.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">First levels do a good job of making you feel like Ultramarines. Starting with all scouts then slowly getting full fledged marines.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Gameplay: You move your troops around in a turn-based strategy system that doesn't break any boundaries but doesn't mess anything up horribly. My overall impression of this left me with two expressions "the system was safe" and "It is on the PSP".<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgakqTYGd44gT410Wp0RhwCSWs0BI_Nd-azbtG7Oosq2801UQLxS77vV-ia7F0F-fh6kaVsHA2gFmaLlbb25DUi5Y7t4V36nv-K3DObT8Sn57U_ORYBV4fJDOoy3HE3CTzPFBfcU7f7xGQ/s1600/03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="181" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgakqTYGd44gT410Wp0RhwCSWs0BI_Nd-azbtG7Oosq2801UQLxS77vV-ia7F0F-fh6kaVsHA2gFmaLlbb25DUi5Y7t4V36nv-K3DObT8Sn57U_ORYBV4fJDOoy3HE3CTzPFBfcU7f7xGQ/s320/03.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I loved that i could play with the Landspeeder, just wasn't very good to play with.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Graphics / Aesthetics: I loved the detail given to each model (for a PSP game) and they really did feel like the Warhammer models in video game format unlike other games (I'm looking at you Fire Warrior). The terrain feels varied enough and gives a good WYSIWYG for the most part.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Graphics are pretty impressive for a psp.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Length: This game screams rent. I got mine from Gamefly and one play through was all I needed. Overall gameplay was probably about 6 hours (with retries). <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Don't know why anyone would take a stormbolter with their Whirlwind, but that vehicle turned all the final missions into 10 minutes snooze fests.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Reply Value: None, there is multiplayer but could find no one to play with and the single player has no real reason to reply. The game itself is not hard and there is no difficulty setting. Also note that there are scores but have no effect on really anything.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM5BoOB2ZTx5OToYo5H1UojnywnJ49BDeBuhVwjC48LgcRSrpnXTEZndnSDcGEVPDiSqEf4TsrU7qB2gJoWA8zeXVjg6hbkcxV7SgDAvrgjWj-OO0qa3AP8cDzzOpNsgaHyTAHDY742lA/s1600/05.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="181" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM5BoOB2ZTx5OToYo5H1UojnywnJ49BDeBuhVwjC48LgcRSrpnXTEZndnSDcGEVPDiSqEf4TsrU7qB2gJoWA8zeXVjg6hbkcxV7SgDAvrgjWj-OO0qa3AP8cDzzOpNsgaHyTAHDY742lA/s320/05.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Boom.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Overall Thoughts:<br />
+Varied units, you start with scouts and even get to command some Grey Knights!<br />
+Mechanics and units are very close if not spot on to the table-top.<br />
+Closest game to the actual table top you can get in video game format.<br />
-Some Terrain blocks fire when it shouldn't. I actually managed to shoot a rocket at a barricade I was up against.<br />
-virtually no reply value the multi-player scene is non existent and the single player doesn't change at all, only reason would be to better your score but there is no unlockables or new game plus. <br />
-I have no real control of what I take, I can change the weapons and ammo amount but not which units.<br />
-The final levels are a joke. You get a Whirlwind and all you have to do is sit back and shoot.<br />
-You never get to fight the 'final boss' he just dies with no explanation.<br />
<br />
Final Recommendation: If you are Warhammer 40k Player who has a PSP and enjoys turn based games give it a try.<br />
<br />
So what do you all think? I generally avoid giving numerical values. Do you all want them? Or want to make your own decisions based off my thoughts? This is more or less a rough draft for future product reviews to come; so I hope you all like it!<br />

(Part 2)Okay so its time to go over my secondary army list. I'll be honest the only reason this build exists is to try some new units but I was very careful not not break what I know works. First thing you'll notice is that its very similar to my previous build except for the HQ and the inclusion of another Heavy Support.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH6ffs4IZdfqEdUvlVhCyMspATp7d87uLv4X8THAa7zRPwSdo_winiAnwP3NyzOA-pinuI84uEl6opyc6QkbetDjDfgtODG9Z6KWxLiqBL7ey4MfCzoU-1Fg8C__sJaujTv2vciv3kBb4/s1600/untitled.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH6ffs4IZdfqEdUvlVhCyMspATp7d87uLv4X8THAa7zRPwSdo_winiAnwP3NyzOA-pinuI84uEl6opyc6QkbetDjDfgtODG9Z6KWxLiqBL7ey4MfCzoU-1Fg8C__sJaujTv2vciv3kBb4/s640/untitled.bmp" width="428" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This list is really just an excuse to field my Mephiston, who I'm very proud of!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Tactics: Same basic concept except I need to get Mephiston in the thick of things as soon as possible. I find it that he makes an amazing vehicle killer (S10, 6 Attacks, TL). The Devastators just find a good vantage point to lob their missiles from. Generally picking vehicles over infantry. With the entire army I focus on eliminating anti-vehicle models first (being a mech list) then removing my opponents troops (if objective based) or easy KP (if Annihilation) Other than that it uses the same tactics as the previous list. As I said I'm using what I know works and trying to learn new things in the process.<br />
<br />
Possible Changes: Maybe (once again) remove the Drop Pod and put him on the Stormraven. Or maybe even on foot a Furioso would soak a lot of fire due to the fear of him getting too close. Other than that not much to change (open to suggestions).<br />
<br />
Odd Choices: I love using Razorbacks, I really wish Assault Squads with Jump Packs were more viable but I can't just ignore the amazing nature of a scoring vehicle with 5 marines inside for 155 Points.<br />
<br />
Once again what can I do to improve? What do I add when we increase in points? Weaknesses?<br />

Today I have two lists that I've been working on throughout my time playing Blood Angels.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
So, I've two lists I'm going to post then explain my techniques, tactics and reasons for the choices. I just took a picture of the excel I use because blog-spot doesn't like the pasting of excel files. I hope this works out well but only time will tell (if you have a better method don't hesitate!). Here we go!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjUgOp1FG5XOfEZ3wZ-95KoeP7DNeWdIehyUyJ4-4_F8nKI7dgb-c_Kogx38z-_z1h3C9iQjGpDCuw7bEBFQnuhMUQ95-1sNDH2loftaHwvyDEUcHbnkym9Yyr2yhy653DYHGCiPfD-YY/s1600/untitled.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjUgOp1FG5XOfEZ3wZ-95KoeP7DNeWdIehyUyJ4-4_F8nKI7dgb-c_Kogx38z-_z1h3C9iQjGpDCuw7bEBFQnuhMUQ95-1sNDH2loftaHwvyDEUcHbnkym9Yyr2yhy653DYHGCiPfD-YY/s640/untitled.bmp" width="356" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is my standard 'all-comers' list.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>The above list contains just about everything that makes the Blood Angels a force of nature. It has 3 Razorbacks, a Stormraven, our amazing Librarian and some terminators. Don't forget that nasty little Dreadnought either!<br />
<br />
Tactics:<br />
I generally drop pod the dreadnought near a high priority target and melta / magna it. I may also prep for a good charge depending on my opponents targets. The Razorbacks advance enough to get lascannon shots off but also try to maneuver into range for the added plasma shots. This is risky as they are only AV11. The Stormraven is always turbo-boosting unless I feel fully unloading (1 Lascannon, 1 Multi-Melta, 4 Blood Strike Missiles) on a high priority target. I unload those terminators on a enemy deathstar and just beat face in. <br />
<br />
Possible Changes:<br />
1) I've been thinking about removing some of the Thunder Hammers, but I don't play against much other than Mech Armies and those S8 Shots help. <br />
2) Removing the Drop Pod would save 35 points (and one kill point) but I don't know what I'd spend the points in.<br />
3) Thinking of going from Las / Plas to TL Lascannon. This would allow the razorbacks to remain in the back and never have to move into plasma range to be fully effective. Also allows them to hold objectives easier. But would also make them more vulnerable to close combat.<br />
<br />
Odd Choices:<br />
1) My terminators have a lot of Storm Shield / Thunder Hammers because I play against a lot of mech.<br />
2) I use the drop pod for my Furioso because it forces my opponent to deal with me round one and takes fire off my Stormraven and Razorbacks<br />
3) My librarian and Priest are in Power Armor because I need the Grenades and not enough room in the Stormraven.<br />
<br />
What do you all think? I need advice! Some suggestions I need is: What armies will this falter against? My club is moving up to 1500 soon, what do you suggest? Am I doing something wrong?<br />
<br />
This post is a bit long so I'm going to wait to post my second List, take care everyone!<br />

Just want to start a posting that I'll be constantly updating with my little 'life-lessons' that I feel that any new player / painter should take into consideration. I'll divide this into 'hobby' and 'battles'<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoOryQrsXl8sdp2gL3WZCGSrdmJ_uLQcw1Yg-R6kVmzOWnyWxYOAs3PAnqnZRGbFsicViCIX0fofrOiU0HYs5Q2bxJAO7i7xl_2GY6FBKnD7jEvAQXcHysQKVBc6Ftk00JbjXiOnyPgLw/s1600/warhammerplayers-23124811.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="256" j8="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoOryQrsXl8sdp2gL3WZCGSrdmJ_uLQcw1Yg-R6kVmzOWnyWxYOAs3PAnqnZRGbFsicViCIX0fofrOiU0HYs5Q2bxJAO7i7xl_2GY6FBKnD7jEvAQXcHysQKVBc6Ftk00JbjXiOnyPgLw/s320/warhammerplayers-23124811.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">It's sad to think how much money I've spent on this and its been less than a year!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Hobby Tips:<br />
1) Always spray your primer in short small burts.<br />
2) Unless its for a competition, painting the interior of a vehicle is never worth it, just seal it up.<br />
3) Never buy a model you won't open the moment you get home.<br />
4) Never paint or prime any piece you plan to directly glue. Always shave it down to the plastic / metal.<br />
5) Always completely prime, paint and matt your model in one go. Never half paint it then come back a few weeks later. You'll be suprised how your technicques could have changed in that time.<br />
<br />
Gameplay Tips:<br />
1) Always roll for 'The Red Thirst".<br />
2) Immediately purchase a tape measure. It makes life infinately easier.<br />
3) Become familar with EVERY codex. I cannot stress this enough, don't have to memorize just make sure you are familiar with it.<br />
<br />
Well...three each is a good start. Many of these things will be 'duh' to most players but I didn't originally think them so I figure that there have to be others the feel the same.<br />
